State disciplines several teachers in Western Pennsylvania
The state has disciplined 31 educators, including several who had worked in area school districts, according to the Department of Education.
— Former Kiski Area substitute teacher Virginia Cipriani-Baustert faced a suspended teaching certificate after she was charged with corruption of minors. She was fired by the district last April after she took students to the Pittsburgh Zoo and a tanning salon without permission. She also was charged with stalking a student and providing alcohol to students in school and at her home.
— Ronald Betz, a former teacher in the Chartiers Valley School District, surrendered his teaching certificate in lieu of discipline after he was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
— Brian Brosh of Irwin, a former high school science teacher in the Elizabeth Forward School District, surrendered his certificate after he was convicted of corruption of minors. He was fired last fall in the wake of allegations that he had sex with a student in exchange for a higher grade.
— Matthew Fazio, a former special education teacher in the Montour School District, surrendered his certificate. He was accused of making inappropriate comments about female students.
— Christine Martin, a former English teacher in the Butler Area School District, had her certificate suspended after she pleaded guilty to corruption of minors. She had been charged with sending inappropriate text messages to students.
— Lori Pack, a former special education teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, had her certificate revoked after she allegedly verbally and physically abused a special education student.
In addition, six teachers, including Jay Wagner, a teacher in the Armstrong School District in Armstrong County, had their suspensions lifted.
The actions all took place between January and August.
