High school students in Westmoreland County soon could have access to a new online resource to help them find internships, apprenticeships and other mentoring experiences.

The Westmoreland County Forum for Workforce Development (WCFWD) was recently awarded a $10,000 grant to help fund an online "Experiential Hub" that would help students match with job training programs.

The online resource would be available to students in the county's 17 school districts and three career and technology centers. Students in the Freeport Area School District in Armstrong County and the Connellsville Area School District in Fayette County also will have access.

The Experiential Hub will have the capacity to serve about 16,000 high school students in those targeted areas.

The state Department of Labor and Industry, Gov. Tom Wolf and the nonprofit Team Pennsylvania awarded the grant, which the Franklin Regional and Norwin school districts accepted on behalf of the WCFWD.

The WCFWD is composed of representatives from local school districts, colleges and universities, career and technology centers and the business community.
