Given the debate about embryonic versus adult stem-cell research and the debate over human cloning, which is needed to produce embryonic stem cells, I read with great interest The Associated Press article “Stem cells offer hope for clogged arteries,” Aug. 9.

Research showed that circulation was improved dramatically when one’s own adult stem cells were injected into areas of poor circulation. This research supports what opponents to research on embryonic stem cells have been saying all along — don’t divert research dollars from proven therapies based on adult stem cells to highly speculative and ethically troubling research on embryonic stem cells.
