About the business

• Marc Serrao and his wife, Susan, opened Oakmont Bakery in 1988 in a 1,200-square-foot building on Allegheny River Boulevard.

• In 1993, they moved the operation across the street
to a 3,600-square-foot building at 531 Allegheny Ave.

• In 1996, they shifted production to a similar-sized building nearby and kept the storefront for retail.

• That family added a 5,000-square-foot warehouse along Cedar Way in 1999.

• The bakery employs 115 and serves about 500 to 600 customers on an average day — a number that can balloon to 2,500 during holidays, Marc Serrao said.
