Pittsburgh City Council introduced a plan Tuesday outlining construction projects at the University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland campus that will make expanding student housing a priority.

Council must approve the plan before the university moves forward. The city planning commission approved the plan last month.

The university has a total on-campus housing capacity of 7,194 beds and promises undergraduate on-campus housing only through the first three years of school, university spokesman John Fedele said.
