With projected enrollment increases at local universities, Greensburg officials are considering regulations for student housing.

The idea was discussed briefly at council's meeting Tuesday and will be addressed more at the regular meeting Monday. Council will not vote on the proposed changes to the city's zoning ordinance until November, at the earliest.

"We're trying to be proactive," city Administrator Sue Trout said after yesterday's meeting.

Seton Hill University in Greensburg and the University of Pittsburgh's branch campus in Hempfield Township both are expecting increases in student enrollment over the next few years.

Among the items being considered are limits on how many students may live in a building and the proximity of the houses with students, city Solicitor Tim McCormick said after the meeting.

At Monday's meeting, council also will be voting on a maintenance agreement for equipment at the ice complex and pool facility.

York International Corp.'s cost is $2,383 per month under the three-year proposal. The expense is the same amount as under the city's last contract with York.

The new measure would be retroactive to Oct. 1.
