Counselors were on call this morning at Mt. Lebanon High School after officials told students that one of their classmates attacked another student last night in woods near the Arlington Park “T” stop, school district officials said. According to police, two 16-year-old students, who were in a relationship, met in the woods shortly before 5:45 p.m. yesterday. The boy attacked the girl with a hammer, police said. She ran away and was treated at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Oakland. She is expected to recover. The boy jumped in front of a Port Authority light rail car and was taken to Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Police did not release either student’s name. “This is a very sad event,” district spokeswoman Cissy Bowman said in a press release. “Our thoughts are with the injured students and their families during this difficult time.” School officials would not comment further.
