One of the bright spots in the struggling economy is the sale of chicks, as in young chickens. The New York Times reports a growing number of people, even those in urban settings, are raising chickens for eggs and meat as something of a hedge should the economy grow worse. But even as The Times reminds, it's usually not very cost-effective. See how the Obama administration mind-set is infecting America• ... In typical fashion , Pennsylvania legislators served themselves before their constituents in the just-adopted stopgap state budget. They had checks cut for themselves a week before the 77,000 state employees, who saw reduced and no paychecks during the impasse. Heat the tar and pluck the feathers, folks. ... Sixty prominent German scientists have sent a letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel formally dissenting from the view of man-made global warming. They say global warming has become a "pseudo religion" and argue that rising levels of C02 have "had no measurable effect" on temperatures. Among the scientists are several who once signed on to now discredited climate studies sponsored by the United Nations. Perhaps the tide is turning against the ecocratic, social re-engineering, heavily salted nuts.
