The Toledo, Ohio , Block Bugler editorializes that those who oppose PNC Financial Services’ nearly $50 million taxpayer molestation to help it build a new Pittsburgh skyscraper are “Lilliputians” or “small-minded” with “no common sense but an overdose of ideology.” Talk about mental midgetry. And it makes us wonder if The Bugler now is outsourcing its editorial writing to PNC and the Allegheny Conference. … Gov. Ed Rendell , speaking via telephone on the Pennsylvania Cable Network Tuesday night, promised to raise other taxes in return for property tax “reform.” A fiscally responsible governor would be talking about lowering spending, not raising taxes, to make up the difference. … State House Majority Leader Rep. Bill DeWeese, D-Greene, says he gave up his “expected rise to the position of speaker” in an effort to “jump-start true bipartisan reform” in the lower chamber. Translation: Mr. DeWeese didn’t have the votes for speaker. … By the way, DeWeese says new Speaker Dennis O’Brien, R-Philadelphia, and Mr. Rendell “have a tremendous personal chemistry.” Translation: Hold onto your wallets.
