The Giant Eagle on Route 88 in Bethel Park reopened on time Wednesday after a fire closed it Tuesday night.

Allegheny County Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Tom Hitchings said the fire was set. Allegheny County and Bethel Park police, as well as the county fire marshal, are investigating.

The store is cooperating with authorities in the investigation, said Rob Borella, director of corporate communications for Giant Eagle.

Firefighters were called to the store around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a fire that started in the paper products aisle of the store.

"It was under control very quickly," Hitchings said.

Store Manager Gary Heckel said no one was injured, but the store was closed Tuesday evening. The store was cleared by the county Health Department to open yesterday morning.

Borella said little merchandise was lost in the fire, but the cleanup will cost thousands of dollars. He couldn't give a precise cost but said it would be less than $10,000.
