When the need arises, these volunteers are there.
Often we don't know who our volunteer firefighters are -- until we need them.
The Fay-West area is fortunate. We have hundreds of men and women who, when the community finds itself in need, have responded to the calls for help. Many times they have found themselves in hazardous situations -- fires, flooding, spills, etc. They are also there to help the community enjoy festive holidays -- sponsoring fireworks, parades, etc.
When the need arises, these volunteers are there. And now they are asking for our help.
Various volunteer fire departments are conducting their annual firemen's fairs. These events, offering entertainment, festival food and fun, are major fundraisers for the all-volunteer departments, which rely on public contributions.
We, as a community should support these events.
In addition to having an enjoyable evening, you'll be supporting the firemen -- your neighbors -- who work to keep you and your family and your home safe.
As these departments are volunteer, funding always is needed. There isn't a day that goes by when one local community fire department isn't sponsoring a hoagie sale, bingo, raffle, etc.
Every penny counts.
We appreciate these men and women who give so much of their time to help keep our communities safe. And it's reassuring to know they'll be there when we need them.
So, take some time and partake in the festivities. While you're there, say thank-you to the volunteers.
