Majestic Star Casino gets to keep the license for a North Shore slots parlor.

The state Supreme Court upheld today gambling regulators’ decision to give the Pittsburgh slots license to Majestic Star and the casino’s Detroit-based owner, Don Barden.

“I feel both overjoyed and vindicated by the Supreme Court’s decision,” Barden said in a statement. “While it’s taken a little longer to get to this point than we had anticipated, we’re grateful to the court for moving with such urgency and helping to clear the way for Pittsburgh’s first casino.”

Chief Justice Ralph Cappy wrote the majority opinion with five other justices concurring. Justice Ronald Castille was the lone dissenter.

Gambling board members said they feel vindicated by the court upholding their license awards in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the Poconos.

“The board believed Mr. Barden his project and location were the best choices for the city of Pittsburgh and the court has affirmed that decision,” said Doug Harbach, spokesman for the state Gaming Control Board.
