Survey: antelope leading China mascot race
A China survey suggested Sunday the Tibetan Antelope is the favored candidate for the 2008 Beijing Olympic mascot.
The survey, released by the China Wild Animal Protection Association, said other contenders include the giant panda, the Chinese tiger, the golden monkey and the red-crowned crane, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency.
The mascot will be announced June 1.
The Tibetan Antelope, a protected species after it was heavily hunted in the 1980's and 1990's, lives in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.
