Police blew up a device that reportedly looked like a hand grenade after it was found Monday in checked luggage at Long Beach Airport near Los Angeles.

KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, said one passenger was detained for questioning after the airport's only terminal was evacuated about 8:20 a.m. PST.

Police bomb experts exploded the device without incident, airport officials said.

At least three flights were delayed until all passengers were re-screened at security checkpoints.
