'Tattie boxes' hid illegal construction

A Scottish farmer denies using a wall of potato boxes to conceal two houses being constructed without local planning approval. Charles Marshall and his company, Marshall Farms, had been given a permit to convert his farm outside Aberdeen to five properties. But local authorities said he tried to add two more houses. A judge has ordered Marshall to remove the offending houses, The Scotsman reported. Marshall said that he might appeal, calling the case "pathetic." And he resolutely denied using the potato boxes to hide anything. "They were in a field beside the houses,' he said. "The boxes were waiting for the tatties to be harvested and the tatties are now harvested. It is a lot of rubbish from start to finish but we will rise to see another day, I am quite sure." © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
