Rather than April 15, the Internal Revenue Service tax filing deadline should be April 30. The end of April is closer to “Tax Freedom Day,” when Americans will finally have earned enough to pay their total tax bill for the year. In fact the filing deadline should be the exact day as calculated, e.g., April 27 this year. In that way the day would be advertised, reminding everyone how much we pay in taxes. From 1980 until 1991, under Presidents Reagan and Bush, Tax Freedom Day fluctuated around April 19. Under Clinton, there was a steady one- or two-day-a-year increase until it peaked at May 1. If Clinton would have been appointed king with his descendants ruling in succession, our descendants would eventually have been giving every red cent to the government to “take care” of them. Thankfully, under President George W. Bush the trend has been reversed. Let us implore our representatives to support him until we have Tax Freedom Day at least back to March 31.
