At least 14 people were killed Sunday in an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in Thailand. The blast in the ancient capital city of Ayutthaya destroyed the factory and damaged several nearby homes, the BBC reported. One of the dead was reportedly a four-year-old boy, and four teenagers were hospitalized with severe burns. No one outside the factory was hurt. Police and local officials said the factory had lost its license 10 years ago after an explosion. The blast may have been the result of increased production of fireworks to meet demand for Thailand’s Loi Krathong festival next month, police said. © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
