The claim: One of the biggest winter beauty mistakes women make is forgetting their lips. Jessica Alba's The Honest Co.'s Organic Lip Balm Trio's unique blend of organic oils moisturizes lips from within rather than sealing them off like petroleum-based lip balms do. It is free of petroleum, parabens, heavy metals, gluten, silicones, synthetic fragrance and dyes. The trio comes in Lavender Mint, Purely Simple and Sweet Orange Vanilla.

The minute the weather starts to turn cold, I have chapped lips. That's how it's always been, and I'm forever searching for some miracle goo that I don't have to reapply 30 times a day. Jessica Alba's Honest Co. lip balms are a good start. They make cracked lips all tingly in a good way, with just a hint of shine that doesn't migrate from your kisser. The Lavender Mint flavor/scent is a bit strong: Don't apply it before drinking a beverage unless you don't mind the additional taste of mint. Sweet Orange Vanilla, to me, is lighter and less lingering, while Purely Simple has nothing much to smell or taste, and may, ultimately, become my go-to lip healer. If there was way to add sun-protection factor to it, I think the Honest balms could be a year-round hit for me.

Apparently, Jessica Alba is just one of those insanely annoying people who is good at everything. Last year, the award-winning actress, model, wife and mother debuted The Honest Co., with lines of home, beauty and baby products that are eco- and animal-friendly, and sans toxins.
I wasn't expecting much from the organic lip balm trio. I'm happy to have been wrong.
My favorite in the set of three is the Lavender Mint one. It's soothing and earthy, and the one that I keep going back to, the one that I'm constantly fishing around in my purse for. The Purely Simple kind is just that — no fragrance, no flavor, no nothing. It's taken up permanent residence on my nightstand. I'll be saving the Sweet Orange Vanilla (think Creamsicle!) balm for the summer.
Leaving out all the bad stuff left plenty of room for shea butter and aloe-leaf extract to soothe and condition chapped lips, and jojoba, olive, sunflower and coconut oils to lock in the moisture.
I find myself using this at all times of the day, both under and over my lipstick.
Try it; it's good stuff. Honest.

If you're looking for something light and fresh, the mild scents and smooth application of Jessica Alba's Honest Co. lip balms are a godsend, but I like my cosmetics to carry a little extra oomph.
The moisture faded with all rapidity of a disappointing piece of chewing gum, flaccid and flavorless half an hour later. Reapply, reapply, reapply.
Usually I'm a sucker for organics, particularly cosmetics, but for the price of environmental consciousness, I want a tingle I can trust.
