On Monday, the chairwoman of the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania (RSCP) issued a news release calling upon Gov. Ed Rendell and the state Legislature "to finalize negotiations and move quickly to repeal the pay raise for all three branches of state government."

"The pay raise has been a pox upon Pennsylvania for the past four months," wrote Eileen Melvin, "and it is imperative that this issue be dealt with and put behind us once and for all."

It's quite the comment from someone who allowed her mouth to remain duct-taped by her GOP controllers since July 7.

But wait, it gets worse:

"At its September meeting, (the committee) unanimously passed a resolution that acknowledged public concern over the pay raise and urged legislative leaders to take appropriate action to address the matter."

Indeed it did. But only after the movers and shakers neutered and spayed the original resolution that, with no weasel words, condemned the pay-jacking. The resolution that passed was meaningless tripe.

In September, the state committee had the chance to remove the hands of party manipulators from its puppet behind and did not. That Eileen the Opportunist, mere hours before certain repeal, now attempts to jump on the reform bandwagon is good cause for good Republicans to throw her and her puppet masters under its wheels.

It's time for a real Republican to chair the state GOP committee. Are you listening, Pat Toomey?
