An ensemble cast closes out a scene during the I Love Rock & Roll Gala to benefit the Child Health Association of Sewickley at the Edgeworth Country Club in Edgeworth. Nov. 22, 2014

With big hair and leather pants at the crux of the Child Health Association of Sewickley’s I Love Rock and Roll ball and corresponding play, at least one thought immediately sprung to mind.

“I thought, ‘Can Sewickley handle this?’ ” said Robyn Carson Jones, who co-chaired the event with Kaisa Hall and Amy L’Altrelli.

Handle it, they did — to such an enthusiastic degree that extra chairs had to be brought into the ballroom of the Edgeworth Club on Nov. 22 to accommodate an audience that couldn’t resist going more than two minutes without letting out a heartfelt catcall.

Written, directed and produced by Marguerite Park, “15143 Rock!” paid homage to the glory days of glam rock with a performance loaded with irresistible digs at their hometown.

It also included the hilarious debut of Doug Donaldson in the title role of fading rock ‘n’ roller Slade Kingsley, whose faux tattoos, bare midriff and long locks almost became second skin. “My challenge is that I’m too comfortable onstage,” he laughed.

Although residents were quick to fill the remaining roles, there were some among the swell that preferred to remain in front of the stage rather than on it.

“I can only perform in front of juries,” jested Tom Jones, husband of association prexy Courtney Jones.

Ball committee members included Emily Bauersmith, Stephanie Butler, Sarah Hartten, Ausra Gause, Lauren Licastro, Tracey Moravitz, Linda Pell, Amber Ray, Kelsey Rhea, Pam Rogers, Julia Sanders, Emily Shipley, Aimee St. Germain, Bev Zamer and Erika Zeranski. Also spied were Tiger Batlas, Jeanie Smith, Christine Waller and Matt Garvic.
