A series of thefts have prompted police in Kennedy and Robinson townships to remind residents to lock their car doors. Kennedy police Sgt. Robert Hull said there has been a rash of reports over the past two weeks of thieves rooting through unlocked vehicles and taking loose change and small items. None of the cars actually were broken into. The thieves apparently are looking only for cars that were left unlocked. "They've passed right by the cell phones," Robinson Township police Chief Dale Vietmeier said, and also have left behind compact discs and stereo systems. "It was kind of funny. They took alcohol and change." Vietmeier said there were 17 thefts from vehicles between 1:30 and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday alone in Robinson. Those thefts all occurred on Silver Lane, near Eickelberger Lane. There also were three thefts on Feb. 21 at the other end of Silver Lane, Vietmeier said. Police in the two communities believe all the incidents are related. Vietmeier said along with keeping their vehicles locked, local residents can help by reporting to police anything that might be suspicious.
