Three-on-Three tourney Saturday
The sixth annual Gate of Heaven Church Three-on-Three Basketball Tourney is scheduled Saturday at Ninth Street Park in Monessen.
It will start at 9:30 a.m. for the 12 and under age group with adults playing at noon.
There will be three age groups (8 to 12, 13 to 17 and 18 and over). Trophies and prizes will be given out with a cash prize for th top adult team.
The event will run until 7 p.m. and is open to mid-Mon Valley residents.
“We’re trying to build a bridge between the community and church,” said Gate of Heaven spokesman Marvin Davis. “It’s an opportunity to meet people you haven’t seen for along time and to have some fun and do a good thing.”
A food court will be open with various contests for the youngsters.
BVA football season tickets
Belle Vernon Area High football season ticket sales will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Rostraver Middle School.
Tickets for Sections 4 and 5 will be on sale Monday with Sections 2 and 7 Tuesday and Sections 1, 3 and 6 Wednesday. All new tickets will be sold Thursday.
The cost is $16 for four home games.
Softball umpires to meet Monday
An important meeting of the Mon Yough Softball League umpires is scheduled at 8:15 p.m. Monday at Sweeney’s Restaurant.
Umpires must attend the session to be eligible for the league playoffs which start late next week.
Wild Things top River City, 5-4
The Washington Wild Things upped their winning streak to three in the Frontier League Thursday with a 5-4 win at River City.
Trailing 1-0, the Wild Things (35-24) went ahead to stay with four runs in the second inning on three hits and three errors.
David Bradley (6-5) scattered two hits and struck out eight in five innings. Anthony Kozul struck out two of the three batters in the ninth inning to pick up his league-leading 10th save.
