CLEVELAND INDIANS — Claimed RHP Bryan Bullington off waivers from Pittsburgh and optioned him to Buffalo (IL). Agreed to terms with INF Cord Phelps. Released RHP Joe Borowski. Announced RHP Rick Bauer has elected free agency.

DETROIT TIGERS — Activated C Brandon Inge from the 15-day DL. Recalled 1B Jeff Larish from Toledo (IL). Sent RHP Eddie Bonine to Erie (EL). Designated C Dane Sardinha for assignment.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS — Extended their affiliation agreement with Wilmington (Carolina) through the 2010 season.

SEATTLE MARINERS — Released 1B Richie Sexson. Placed LHP Erik Bedard on the 15-day DL.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS — Placed CF Vernon Wells on the 15-day DL.

National League

CHICAGO CUBS — Agreed to terms with RHP Andrew Cashner and RHP Aaron Shafer.

HOUSTON ASTROS — Waived RHP Oscar Villarreal. Sent OF Reggie Abercrombie outright to Round Rock (PCL).

MILWAUKEE BREWERS — Activated LHP Randy Choate from the 15-day DL and sent him outright to Nashville (PCL).

PITTSBURGH PIRATES — Traded OF Craig Wilson to Seattle for a player to be named. Acquired RHP Dan Reichert and INF-OF Ryan Mulhern from Cleveland for cash considerations. Recalled RHP Luis Munoz from Altoona (EL).

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS — Placed LHP Mark Mulder on the 15-day DL. Purchased the contract of LHP Jamie Garcia from Memphis (PCL).

WASHINGTON NATIONALS — Placed INF Aaron Boone on the 15-day DL, retroactive to July 7. Recalled INF Pete Orr from Columbus (IL).

LINCOLN SALTDOGS — Released OF Corey Harrington.

SHREVEPORT SPORTS — Agreed to terms with LHP Bric Steed.

NBA — Suspended Sacramento C Brad Miller for five games without pay for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. Suspended Chicago G JamesOn Curry for one game without pay for pleading guilty to resisting or obstructing an officer and violating Idaho law.

HOUSTON ROCKETS — Agreed to termns with G Brent Barry on a two-year contract.

PHOENIX SUNS — Signed C Robin Lopez.

CAROLINA PANTHERS — Released QB Taylor Tharp and P Dan Zeidman.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS — Named Matt Berrry southwest area scout, Jason Barnes pro personnel assistant, Ed Dodds midwest area scout and Eric Stokes west coast area scout.
