Today is National S’mores Day; Girl Scouts celebrate in Western Pa.
The Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania will hold an event in Verona and other locations in the region on National S’mores Day on Friday.
People will make s’mores, enjoy activities and learn more about Girl Scouts and the organization’s mission from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penn Hills Community Park, 120 Colorado St.
The event is for all K-12 girls and their families.
The treat that sandwiches a semi-melted marshmallow between two graham crackers and chocolate has roots in the organization’s history, said a Girl Scouts news release. The first written recipe was in the 1927 book “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.”
Each Girl Scout who brings a friend to one of the events Friday will receive a “Make S’more Friends” patch if the friend becomes a Girl Scout.
Other events are happening in Tarentum, McKeesport, Allison Park starting Aug. 9. For a full list of events, visit the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania’s activity calendar .
