Toy-gun ban

The day before the Trib published Dimitri Vassilaros' column " Mall ban on toy guns a double standard " (Oct. 29), I went to a local Toys R Us to purchase a toy gun as a prop for one of my children's Halloween costumes. I was informed by a Toys R Us employee that its policy is not to carry toy guns of any kind.

This uncovers another hypocrisy, as other toys "promoting violence" are available in the form of swords, action figures and video games.

This store's decision to ban toy guns clearly does not reflect mainstream attitudes pertaining to guns. Many do not view guns as promoting violence, as evidenced by the abundance of hunters, permits to carry concealed weapons and support of our military.

When shopping this holiday season, consider whether the store where you shop reflects your values and beliefs.
