Treasurer shuts down Blawnox bar for drink tax delinquency
Allegheny County Sheriff's deputies padlocked a Blawnox bar and restaurant that's accused of being more than $14,000 behind in paying its drink tax.
The PGH Millhouse Grill on Blaw Avenue was closed Friday morning, according to the county treasurer's office.
The bar and restaurant opened in 2009.
“As I stated many times before, it is not fair to other bar and restaurant owners, and the taxpayers who frequent these establishments that the drink taxes collected are not remitted to the county in a timely manner,” Treasurer John Weinstein said in a statement.
The bar's owners could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon. The PGH Millhouse Grill also owes property taxes from 2012 and 2013, according to the county's assessment records.
