I admit it: I was immediately dismissive of the Gillette Venus Snap with Embrace razor.

I took one look at its 2-inch handle and feared the worst. I assumed I was about to carve up my legs and make my bathroom look like a scene out of “Law & Order: SVU.”

Not only did I not need a tourniquet, but my legs were smooth and soft, thanks to the “ribbon of moisture” on the razor. And no worries if you use a Venus with a different type of blade. It’ll be compatible with the Snap.

I’ll not only be taking this razor with me on trips, but it’s earned itself a place in my shower permanently, just because I like the feel of it so much. And it’s just cute. The razor, in its blue case, will look way prettier in my travel bag than my usual stick Bic.

I could have used this on my recent vacation. While it’s not hard to tote a razor, there is always the wonder of whether the blade cover will stay on or will you get a paper-cut-like gash when you reach in your toiletries case. Snap solves that by rethinking the handle into a half-dollar-size disk, which allowed the razor to fit into a ventilated pod for transport.

My first thought on removing the razor from the pod was, “Well, this is awkward,” but really, it wasn’t. You can manipulate it much like a traditional razor, but if you slip, the five-bladed cartridge is fairly forgiving. Other cartridges can be used, but I wouldn’t recommend one with fewer blades for that reason. Also, I’d recommend using any soap, cream or moisturizer you usually shave with. The cartridge has a “ribbon of moisture,” but shaving with that alone wasn’t all that smooth.

This adorable little razor has found a place in my heart — and my travel bag. I love its style and the way it fits into my hand. The five blades slide easily around bumps, giving a close shave without nicks and scrapes. The ”ribbon of moisture” that circles the blades helps keep skin smooth, too, adding to the performance of your shaving gel. And the little clamshell compact is so much more sophisticated than my usual Ziploc plastic bag that gets tossed in with the rest of my beauty equipment.

At last, I’ll be the cool kid in the locker room at the gym.
