Trib Total Media names Jennifer Bertetto president and CEO
Jennifer L. Bertetto was named president and CEO of Trib Total Media, board Chairman H. Yale Gutnick announced Monday.
Bertetto replaces Ralph J. Martin, who resigned to become CEO of Civitas Media in Davidson, N.C., publisher of about 100 community dailies and weekly newspapers in a dozen states.
“I am grateful and proud to lead our team,” said Bertetto, the Trib’s vice president and chief operating officer since 2010. “I am confident about the future and excited to lead the charge.”
Martin, who joined Trib Total Media in 2003 and became president two years later, said he considered a new direction for himself and his family after the death on July 4 of Trib owner Dick Scaife.
“I have truly enjoyed my 12 years at Trib Total Media,” Martin said. “My relationship with Dick Scaife was one of the best and most rewarding with a publisher in my career.”
Martin said his expertise has been in building large groups of community newspapers.
“I believe this new position offers me an opportunity to do just that, to develop and expand a larger news group with properties in several states, much as I did at Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.,” an Alabama-based group of community dailies and weeklies of which he was president in the 1990s.
Martin said the Trib’s newspapers have grown substantially during his tenure, “eclipsing the Post-Gazette in regional circulation.”
“He certainly has made an impact,” Gutnick said, “and he has been deeply involved in community affairs and the state’s newspaper operations.”
Martin chairs the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, the state’s trade organization for newspapers, and serves on the board of Robert Morris University.
Trib Total Media publishes seven daily newspapers and more than 20 weekly newspapers across Western Pennsylvania. The company employs more than 1,000 people.
“Fortunately, we have a strong team in place throughout the company and we will continue to publish the best newspapers in Western Pennsylvania,” Gutnick said.
Bertetto, 38, joined the Trib soon after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997. Previous positions include executive director of sales and retail advertising director.
Bertetto is on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, the National Aviary, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.
She and her husband, Keith, live in Lower Burrell.
