California edged visiting Charleroi, 6-5, Thursday in a WPIAL playoff tuneup for both teams.

The Trojans won despite collecting only four hits off the Cougars’ Justin Deutsch and Kolton Ramsdell.

California did all its scoring in the second inning when the Trojans collected their four hits to go with two Charleroi miscues.

Andy Galis’ two-run single and Jason Britton’s two-run triple were the big hits for California after Matt Hartman and Brad Wright opened with singles before Terry Luko and Brandon Rossi both reached on errors.

Charleroi scored its first run in the third inning when Kevin Carson walked, went to second on an overthrow and came home on an error on Chris Chacko’s grounder.

Carson singled in the Cougars’ second run in the fourth inning after Zach Neil reached on an error and Ramsdell and Josh Farner drew walks to load the bases.

Doubles by Ramsdell and Deutsch around walks to Ramsdell and Carson accounted for Charleroi’s last three runs.

Chris Cox started for the Trojans before being replaced in the sixth inning by Dustin Taylor.

California will take a 14-5 record and four-game winning streak into the Class A playoffs. Charleroi enters the Class AA playoffs with a 11-6 mark.
