Trooper's vehicle hits deer on Route 30

A Pennsylvania state trooper escaped injury Saturday night when his vehicle struck a deer along Route 30 in Hempfield Township.

State police investigators said Trooper Dean A. Gerard of Troop A in Greensburg was traveling east on Route 30 near Greensburg-Mt. Pleasant Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. when a deer leaped across the front of his vehicle and was hit and killed.

The 2000 Ford sedan patrol car Gerard was driving had moderate damage as a result of the mishap.
