What's new in regulations

&#149 A 3.6-mile section of Big Run in Lawrence County has been added to the commission's list of trout-stocked waters. The portion of the stream stretching from the state route 0388 bridge downstream to the state route 0065 bridge near New Castle got a preseason stocking of brown and rainbow trout and will get one in-season stocking, too.

&#149 A 1.7-mile section of Repine Run in Indiana County -- from the headwaters downstream to the mouth -- has been taken off the stocking list, however, because of landowner posting and problems with low water.

What's staying the same

&#149 Anglers 16 and older need a fishing license and a trout stamp (or a combination trout stamp and Lake Erie stamp) to fish in stocked waters. Licenses and stamps must be signed in ink and displayed on an outer garment. If you're an adult, you're supposed to carry a driver's license or other form of identification with you, too.

&#149 The creel limit remains at five fish per day from opening day through Labor Day. All fish must be at least seven inches long.

&#149 Anglers are again being encouraged to eat no more than one meal of stocked trout per week. The Fish and Boat Commission said that all of its stocked fish are safe to catch, handle and eat. However, eating just one meal a week of any fish caught in Pennsylvania is best, especially for pregnant women, women of childbearing age, and children.
