Transfer any photo onto a fabric sheet quickly and easily with a color ink jet desktop copier. I use 100-percent pima cotton fabric sheets from Printed Treasures by Milliken. The sheets are soft, smooth and provide maximum color accuracy. The photos are as sharp as if you were printing them onto a sheet of paper. Fabric sheets with a lifted texture tend to distort the sharpness of the photo as it is printed. I use them when I want my photo to appear aged. To eliminate waste from the fabric sheets, color blend your fabric sheets to your project. Lay a piece of pressed fabric from your project or a color-coordinated fabric on top of the copier and print the fabric design onto a sheet of paper. Light-colored small prints, lines and dots are excellent for this sheet. Check for image clarity and color and adjust the setting on the copier if needed and reprint. If all of your photos are the same size you will only need one copy of the printed sheet of paper. If the photos are various sizes or if you are placing more than one photo on each sheet then print an extra sheet of paper for each template needed. On the back of the sheet of printed paper mark the center with a thin lead pencil and place the photo in the center of the page. Trace lightly with the pencil around the photo and remove the photo from the paper. Cut a photo pane by cutting out the inside center of the tracing of the photo leaving 1/8 of an inch inside the marked lines where the photo will be placed. For small photos divide the sheet into two or four sections and follow the instructions above. Place the template sheet on top of the copier with the right side down, place the photo or photos right side down on top of the sheet over the photo pane and test print onto a piece of paper then print onto a fabric sheet. If you are using digital photos directly from a computer, scan a copy of fabric into the computer for the background, then copy and paste photos to the background. Ink will usually be dry in one minute. After the ink is dry, gently peel the paper from the back, hold the fabric flat and rinse in cold water in a sink or pan. Allow the fabric to lay flat on a towel or other flat surface to air dry. The rinse will remove excess ink and brighten the colors, and it only takes a few seconds. The sew-on fabric sheets can be used in items like quilts, wall hangings, decorator pillows and aprons. The iron-on fabric sheets are great on ready-made items like blue jeans, place mats and craft items. The peel-and-stick fabric sheets are easy to apply to notebooks, luggage, duffel bags, purses and tennis shoes.
