Runners will take to the streets of Uniontown on Thanksgiving for a good cause during the fourth Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk.
"We were very pleased with the turnout last year," said Jes Hutson, one of the organizers of the event, who said last year's Turkey Trot brought out approximately 410 participants.
This year, Hutson said, organizers have set no goals for attendance, just hoping to bring in as many people as possible to Uniontown on Thanksgiving for the race.
Registration for the race will begin at 7:15 a.m. and the run starts at 9 a.m. at the Salvation Army Corps building, 32 West Fayette Street.
The top three overall male and female runners/walkers and the top three male and female runners/walkers in a wide variety of age categories will win awards.
At 8:10 a.m., organizers will hold a special half-mile Mini-Gobbler Trot Run/Walk for ages 2 to 11; all Mini-Gobblers will receive awards for their participation.
The 5K isn't just about a run/walk competition, but also offers a chance to volunteer as Hutson says that after the race, participants can help out if they wish and serve patrons a meal at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army.
Hutson said meals also will be delivered to shut-ins around the area.
