Turnpike closed between Irwin, New Stanton on Sunday
The Pennsylvania Turnpike will close in both directions between Irwin and New Stanton early Sunday, officials announced Wednesday.
Weather permitting, both sides of the highway will close from 12:01 a.m. to 3 a.m. so road crews can remove an overhead sign structure at milepost 74.
The signs are being removed in preparation for rebuilding that section and adding another lane on each side, said Tom Fox, western regional spokesman.
Westbound traffic should exit at New Stanton, take Route 119 north to Toll Route 66 north, then exit at westbound Route 30 which reconnects with the turnpike at Irwin. Eastbound traffic should exit at Irwin, take Route 30 east and toll Route 66 south, then reenter the turnpike at New Stanton.
