Two men have confessed to stealing and then selling a brick house piece by piece, the Tyler (Texas) Morning Telegraph reported Wednesday.
Brandon Parmer and Darrell Maxfield dismantled the three-bedroom brick house in broad daylight and sold the pieces for drug money, Smith County Constable Dennis Taylor said.
The constable said the men had sold pieces of the house until only a pile of rubble was left. Many had witnessed the house's deconstruction, but most thought the demolition was due to the nearby construction of Wal-Mart and a Lowe's stores, he said.
"We drove by and watched the house come down," said Taylor. "We wondered why it was taking so long, rather than just bulldoze it. It took about a month before the top even collapsed."
The home belonged to Dallas-based St. Ives Realty. A company representative called Taylor March 15 to report the house stolen.
Taylor said both men confessed.
