WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP: Two people were injured about 4:30 a.m. Monday in a headon collision along Route 366 at Quarry Lane in which one vehicle burst into flames. Tammy Blackham, 32, of Saltsburg, was reported Monday in good condition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, a hospital spokeswoman said. Matthew Sabotka, 22, of East Deer, asked officials not to release his condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. Blackham was driving east on Route 366 when she crossed into the opposite lane and struck Sabotka's vehicle, Police Chief Scott Slagle said. Blackham's car continued across Quarry Lane, down an embankment and into a tributary of Puckety Creek. Sabotka managed to get out of his vehicle, and it caught fire in the middle of Route 366, Slagle said. When help arrived, both drivers were unconscious. Blackham was flown to the hospital by emergency helicopter while Sabotka was taken by ambulance. The accident happened at the crest of a hill where there is limited visibility, police said. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph. It's not known why Blackham crossed the road, but Slagle said there is a chance she might have tried to avoid a deer because the area is known for deer crossing. Blackham's car left skid marks prior to impact. A passing motorist called for help on a cellular telephone, Slagle said. Township firefighters and Oklahoma Ambulance also responded. Blackham, who delivers newspapers, might have been working when the accident happened, Slagle said. Newspapers were strewn across the accident scene, the chief said.
