Kosovo crime victims can now call a free hotline for help; thanks to an agreement between the United Nations and local postal authorities, say officials.
Victims of gender-based violence and human trafficking will have access to the hot line set up by the U.N.'s Victims' Advocacy and Assistance Unit in the controlled territories of Kosovo, said agency officials.
The agreement signed Friday in Kosovo ensures access to police and other law enforcement officials for victims to report crimes and pursue punishment for their attackers.
Other forms of assistance provided by the victim unit include medical help, shelter, and educational assistance. The agency also works to combat human trafficking in Kosovo.
The United Nations has run the province of Kosovo since 1999.
