The Military Spouse Preference Choice initiative, tested in a pilot program in Europe, will be adopted worldwide, U.S. Army officials said. The program will take spouses’ names from databases for automatic job filling and allow them to accept or decline temporary positions without losing their military spouse preference, said Patricia Rothrock, a human resources specialist in Seckenheim, Germany. Rothrock told the Stars and Stripes applicants seeking jobs on Army installations and listed as “qualified” for a position had to either accept it or lose their spousal preference for hiring all together. She said the program was created to help spouses work in temporary jobs, while waiting for a permanent position to open. “Now spouses have a choice,” Rothrock told Stars and stripes. “If something temporary comes up that they’re qualified for, but they don’t really like the position or where it’s at, they can decline the job without losing their spouse preference for future job offers.” © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
