The U.S. Postal Service said it is taking action to restore mail delivery to Ford Cliff residents.

The town has been without a post office since fire destroyed the facility, located in a former residential property, in November of last year.

Millie McConnell, manager of Postal Operations for central western Pennsylvania, said the Postal Service is pursuing two courses of action.

'We will probably have cluster boxes installed for Ford Cliff residents by fall.' McConnell said. 'That will save residents the trip to Ford City to get their mail.

'The second thing we are looking into is building a new post office. We haven't set a time frame for this due to the budget constrains set by the federal government, however, our real estate office in Maryland is actively pursuing a search for a suitable site for a new post office for Ford Cliff.'

Ford Cliff Mayor John Radic said numerous citizens have pressed him to get a resumption of mail delivery. He said many were senior citizens who found it a hardship to drive to the Ford City post office to get their mail. Nearly all of the borough's 420 residents had a post office box at the old building that had stood on Columbus Avenue.

Radic said he has been three months since he spoke with postal officials and was told to await a letter.
