U2 has top grossing tour of 2005

U2's Vertigo was the top grossing tour of 2005 with revenues of $260 million and more than 3 million fans, Billboard Boxscore reports in its year-end tally.

Every stop along the 90-concert tour was sold out, Billboard saif in the issue that hits stands Friday.

The Eagles had the second highest grossing tour with $177 million from 77 shows, followed by Neil Diamond with more $71 million, Kenny Chesney with $63 million, Paul McCartney at $60 million and Rod Stewart at $49 million.

Missing from the tally was the current Rolling Stones tour because the band's promoter does not submit the necessary information until after the British band ends its tour, Billboard.com.

New York's Madison Square Garden was the top grossing arena for the sixth consecutive year while the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, Mass., took the amphitheater title for the second year in a row.
