Britain spends $6.3 billion per year on heart disease, more than any nation in the European Union, Sky News reported Sunday. The payout is almost one-fourth of the total spent on heart disease care by EU countries, The British Heart Foundation said, noting more people in Britain are now living longer after suffering heart attacks or other coronary problems. Some 2.7 million people in Britain are living with heart disease and in need of ongoing care. Healthcare spending per person in Britain is $113, followed by Germany at $108. The lowest spending includes Malta at $7.64, Latvia's $9.95 and Hungary, $14.14. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
