An unidentified man was killed Thursday night after he was struck by a CSX freight train in Sutersville.

Westmoreland 911 confirmed the coroner was dispatched to the scene at 611 Third Ave. shortly after the 9:40 p.m. accident.

Initial reports indicated the victim was struck and wedged beneath the train.

CSX spokesman Garrick Francis said the accident did not occur at a crossing.

The train was carrying 25 loaded cars of mixed freight, along with 46 empty cars, and was en route from Cumberland, Md., to Louisville, Ky.

Francis said it was unclear how fast the train was traveling.
