Unsolved: Carolyn Bradley, 39

Carolyn Bradley's loving husband and four devoted children lost her for $272. An armed robber shot Bradley, 39, of Hookstown, in the chest and head while she was working at the Highland Meadows General Store around 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 1990, along Route 30 in Independence Township, Beaver County. Bradley died about five hours later at Allegheny General Hospital. To this day, police have few clues. "She had said from working down there that if anyone would ever come in to rob the place, she would let them take what they want," said Bradley's daughter, Tina Block, who was 16 when she lost her mother. "She had money in her purse that was behind the counter, behind her. It was never bothered. They never did anything with her purse. The little money they got out of the drawer is all they got." Trooper Robert Beckey, lead investigator, said no one witnessed the shooting. But authorities do know that a heavy-set white man in his late 20s, with brown, frizzy hair was seen outside the store driving a light green, two-door 1970 Ford Maverick. Beckey said police have a "person of interest" whom they would like to interrogate, but the man's attorney advised him to refuse.. The man owned a car matching the description of the Maverick and fit the description of its driver. "He subsequently painted the car with spray-paint cans, possibly to avoid identification, and lied to investigators about the date the car was painted," Beckey said. "It still bothers me," said Block, fighting to compose herself. "I don't think it will ever be solved. They said they don't have anything to go on." Beckey said police have received no significant leads since early in the investigation. Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
