Reading Luis Fábregas' column “UPMC workers in business of saving lives, so why harm their own by smoking?” (July 13 and TribLIVE.com) and his excitement about how UPMC is banning employee smoking during workdays, I wonder why it allows other unhealthful practices to go on.

Salt, red meat, butter, eggs, sugar, soda, etc., have been proven to be unhealthful, but are abundant at all UPMC facilities. Sugar, especially, has been proven to be a food for cancer.

Maybe Luis will be even more excited when UPMC is allowed into your house to search for banned items.
