US Airways ranked first in on-time arrivals in March and for the whole first quarter, according to government data released today, marking a turnaround for the previously tardy carrier. The airline was on time 79.1 percent of the time in March, and 78.3 percent of the time for the first quarter, said the U.S. Department of Transportation. The performance put US Airways at the top of the nation's 10-largest carriers, said the airline. A year ago, US Airways flights arrived on time only 55.5 percent of the time, ranking it last among the major carriers. "Today's top on-time performance results validate the substantial operational turnaround our airline is executing," said President Scott Kirby, crediting the airline's 36,000 workers. Employees were paid bonuses totaling $7.2 million, or $50 each, for placing in the top three spots in the months from December through March.
