The Department of Veterans Affairs scheduled appointments for 191 Pittsburgh-area veterans who were on a once-secret waiting list, the VA said Friday.
The list included 636 names when VA Pittsburgh Director Terry Gerigk Wolf disclosed it to two congressmen on May 29. Eighty-one veterans deferred requesting an appointment, and 173 declined to request one, according to the VA's tally.
The House Veterans Affairs Committee scheduled a hearing for Monday in Washington to investigate whether VA workers tried to mask wait times at hospitals around the country. Some on the Pittsburgh wait list, which included veterans trying to enroll in VA health care for the first time, waited longer than a year, U.S. Reps. Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, and Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair said.
