Valley senior forward Troy Hill collected 26 points and 13 rebounds, as Valley defeated Fox Chapel, 80-73, Saturday night in the championship game of the Fox Chapel Tournament.
Hill was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Tyreese Collins added 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Vikings (2-0).
Harrison Smith and Alex Vargo each had 18 points for Fox Chapel (1-1).
Plum 67, West Allegheny 63
Andrew Cressler scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds and was named MVP, as he led Plum (2-0) to a win against West Allegheny (1-1) at the West Allegheny Tournament final. Neal McKown added 17 points and seven rebounds for Plum. John O'Donnell scored a career-high 35 points for West Allegheny.
Shaler 67, Kiski Area 58
Senior Brady Pacific scored 17 points to give him 1,005 in his career, but Kiski Area (1-1) lost to Shaler (2-0) in the final of the Shaler Tournament. Tarique Godson led Kiski Area with 19 points.
St. Joseph 57, Venango Catholic 50 (OT)
Freshman Mike Connelly scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to propel St. Joseph (1-1) past Venango Catholic (0-2) in the consolation game of the DuBois Catholic Tournament. Venango tied the game with two seconds left in regulation.
Riverview 71, Purchase Line 30
Freshman Corey Bickert scored a game-high 26 points to lead Riverview (1-1) past Purchase Line (0-2) in the consolation game of the Kittanning Tournament. Riverview collected 22 steals.
Freeport 54, Avonworth 43
Alex Isenberg went 8-for-8 from the foul line and scored a game-high 17 points, as Freeport (1-1) defeated Avonworth (0-2) in the consolation game of the Avonworth Tournament.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greensburg Salem 67, St. Joseph 61
Jacqi Diez scored a team-high 26 points, and Clare Barkowski added 15 points, for St. Joseph (1-1) in the final of the St. Joseph Tournament. Greensburg Salem's Andrea Thompson, the tournament MVP, outscored St. Joseph, 14-0, to start the third quarter.
Burrell 44, Leechburg 25
Eryn Ciccocioppo netted a game-high 14 points, as Burrell (1-1) picked up a win over Leechburg (0-2) in the consolation game of the Valley Tournament. Leechburg has lost 26 consecutive games.
Apollo-Ridge 65, Springdale 38
Hannah Shaffer, Ellen Reilly and Beth Schrecengost each scored 12 points, as Apollo-Ridge (2-0) overwhelmed Springdale (1-1) in the final of the Springdale Tournament. Shaffer was named tournament MVP.
Ford City 51, Union-Rimersburg 21
Marisa Wolfe collected 19 points and eight rebounds, and Lynzee Panchik added 12 points and seven rebounds, as Ford City (2-0) beat Union-Rimersburg (1-1) and won the Karn City Tournament.
Kittanning 40, Hickory 34
Brittany Adams scored a team-high 12 points, all from the foul line, to lead Kittanning (2-0) past Hickory (1-1) in the championship game of the Kittanning Tournament. The Lady Wildcats went 28-for-41 from the foul line, while Hickory went 4-for-5.
WRESTLING
Eastern Area Tournament
Plum senior Cory Bonura captured the 135-pound weight class title, and junior Dom Pietropaolo won the 140 championship Saturday night.
Bonura notched his 100th career win during the tournament at Gateway.
Also for Plum, Travis Kuhn (189) took third, and D.J. Martin (171) placed fourth. The Mustangs finished sixth out of 21 teams.
Kiski Area was the highest finishing local team, taking third.
Leading the way for the Cavaliers was junior Mike McCutcheon, who won the championship in the 145 class. Four of his five wins were by pin.
Two other Kiski Area wrestlers -- juniors Justin Harold (152) and Zach Shannon (160) -- finished second. Jaron Fitzgerald (103) took third.
Walsh Ironman Tournament
Burrell sophomore David Makara took sixth place in the 125 class at what is considered one of the top high school tournaments in the nation. Last season, as a freshman, Makara took eighth in the 103 class.
