DONEGAL - Vandalism of both public and private property has, in recent weeks, extended its arm to Donegal Borough.

According to borough council president, Richard Harkcom, the many incidents happened mainly on Church Street in the borough and occurred approximately three weeks ago.

'They tore off paper boxes the whole way down the street, the meter on the old school house was busted, they shot at the Donegal Pharmacy window and shot a window of a car with a BB gun that was parked on Church Street,' said Harkcom.

Council member Louise Kerr questioned what could be done. 'We have to catch these kids,' she stressed.

Harkcom informed Kerr that they did notify the state police as well as state Rep. Jess Stairs office. 'The police came out and talked to some of the kids, and there hasn't been any incidents that I know of since then,' he said.

According to Secretary Sarah Harkcom, this is the first case of vandalism that the borough has seen in a long time.

'I think the residents are more angry than scared, but trying to catch them is hard,' said Richard Harkcom.

In other business, Kerr expressed her concern over speeding in the borough. According to council member Dan McCue, there are speed limit signs posted.

'The problem is that people don't pay attention to the signs,' said McCue. 'What we need is the state police giving out a few tickets.'
