Veterans Day tribute scheduled in Monessen
The Monessen Veterans Council will offer a patriotic salute to those who have served in defense of this country at a Veterans Day Program to be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Veterans War Memorial in City Park on Grand Boulevard.
Representatives of the following military units will be participating: Allison-Lescanac Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, Thomas McKee American Legion Post 28, Anthony Madison American Legion Post 704, Mon Valley Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, Mon Valley Marine Leathernecks and the Joe Walker-Mon Valley Chapter of the Air Force Association.
Frederic Feldman, who is serving his 33rd year as council president, has announced the following program: placing of the memorial wreath, post commanders; Pledge of Allegiance, assembly; national anthem, Courtney Menzler; invocation, Richard Stewart, council vice president; and greetings, John DeLuca, mayor of Monessen.
Feldman will then introduce the following special guests in attendance: Pierre Luti, designer, Veterans War Memorial; Bill Worthington, of the Air Force Association; Michael Yusko and John Snyder, leaders of the Mon Valley Leathernecks; Frank Maiolini, chief of staff and graves registrar, and George Penich, aide-de-camp and graves registrar, both representing the council; and Gold Star Mothers.
The program will continue with a patriotic song by Menzler. Leonard Babinski, commander, American Legion Post 28, will call the roll of deceased comrades.
Beatrice Yakem, secretary/treasurer of the council, will introduce the speakers — Joseph Randall, commander, American Legion Post 704; James Cain, past president, Mon Valley-Joe Walker Chapter of the Air Force Association; and Feldman, who is also commander, VFW Post 1190.
James Restivo, aide-de-camp, will offer a Veterans Day tribute, which will be followed by benediction by Stewart. The program will conclude with the playing of taps by buglers from the Monessen High School Band.
