It's nearly all quiet on the auction front with a single sale on the calendar as March enters like a lamb.
The rest of the month will roar as Dargate Auction Galleries holds its inaugural event at its new McKee Rocks location and Concept Art Gallery presides over the sale of the Emily F. Oliver estate. But for the next few weeks, Constantine & Pletcher is just about the only game in town.
Constantine & Pletcher
Ask any auctioneer what makes for a great sale, and they'll tell the same thing: "When you sell everything." Of course, leaving nothing on the block at the end of the day is the goal, but sometimes there are a few leftovers. Which brings us to Constantine & Pletcher's Saturday warehouse clearance sale.
While most of the goods up for bid made appearances in previous sales, co-owner Dan Pletcher promises that a few items will be making their auction debut. With most items estimated to sell for $500 or less, Pletcher admits that when bidders start raising their hands, you never know how high prices will go.
"During a previous warehouse sale there was a lot of six old Matchbox cars," he says. "I didn't think they'd set any records. But when it was all over, the cars sold for $800. That's part of the fun and unpredictability of auctions."
This week's lineup includes a collection of furniture, toys, stoneware, household items and porcelain.
The sale starts with a one-hour preview at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by opening bids at 11 a.m., at the Constantine & Pletcher showroom, 1306 Pittsburgh St., Cheswick.
